Borneo and the Almighty National Parks

Hello!

How is Europe doing? I’ve heard the spring is coming, I bet it’s beautiful out there.

South East Asia is still hot and humid, summer never ending, lucky me J

After our enjoyable stay at the islands in the Philippines we went to Malaysian Borneo in a search for the wildlife, mountains and nature in general.

If you are wondering what I am talking about, Borneo is a huge island separated into a Malaysian and Indonesian sides. We did have a chance to volunteer up in the mountains waking up with the Mount Kinabalu (4095m!) view. We met great volunteers there and were really lucky to stay so close to this beauty Mt Kinabalu. However, the concept of volunteering in the place we stayed was completely misunderstood. Volunteering is not a cheap labour, it is an exchange where both sides learn something new, teach and change the ideas. We did not regret though. We met some great local people and some cool international volunteers as well.

And so we ventured back on the road again. I know I know, I told to quite few of you that I need some project in my life, traveling and doing all cool stuff can get boring after a while. However, life want s me to be on the road. That’s fine by me J

This time we were three, me, Dom and our new friend Bella. We explored Brunei, the absolute monarchy country with a sultan as a leader of the country. Rich of oil, this place seemed completely different than other countries we visited in South East Asia. Don’t get me wrong, people were great but there was not much of the character in this place. And then we were back in Borneo again.

We did explore some great National Parks, were amazed by giant caves, full of ancient paintings on the walls, saw Proboscis Monkeys, were close to the crocodiles (still haven’t seen them) and saw the great ginger men- orangutangs just out in the wild. No wonder why all the scientists come here, the wildlife is FASCINATING and I am not even a scientist!

Where next is a little secret of mine. It is a surprise for Dom as well as he will find out where he is going only at the airport. Little spice for our trip, haha!

Enjoy the spring, the nature is waking up!
