Lithuania and Job Hunting

Hello everybody,

It's been a while :)

I am in my native land Lithuania and these weeks that I've been here was concentrated on relaxing plus job hunting. Two opposites, ha!

So what can I say. It really sucks when you have to look for a job, that is my conclusion.

Since I came back to Lithuania just before the summer I thought that I could do some summer job even here. Can you imagine? People who know me they can tell that I like Lithuania but after so much time wandering around I was never even considering anything here. Oh well, summers are great in Lithuania, my favourite season with warm weather, sunny days, camping and staying by the lakes. So I decided to create my first lithuanian CV and dive into the waters of we-are-all-grown-up-and-we-are-looking-for-job.

I have been invited to 3 job interviews in Lithuania and I must say it was funny. I had to leave my first interview in the middle of it cause I really did not like a guy and everything seemed like a dodgy sales/internet job with imaginary company and imaginary money.

My second one was pretty informal but it was for a Tourism Manager position in one of the biggest travel company in Lithuania. Ha! Can you imagine me there between all those ''serious'' people? I couldn't, in fact I was not even selected anyway! It was just pretty sad to sit there and talk with those two interviewers. They looked so bored of their lifes, no energy, no smile, no enthusiasm and they kept repeating that the job won't be as excited as my travels. Of course I am not expecting the same experience as diving for fun somewhere in Indonesia but common don't demotivate me saying that everything is so boring. Oh well, I guess I need something more vibrant, creative and challenging...

My 3rd interview was for the hostel job and I loved everything about it, the director seemed cool, people were chilled, good and relaxing atmosphere, however they could offer only part time position which here in Lithuania with a minimum wage would be not enough to survive.

I got bored of looking for jobs here in Lithuania, in fact I got a bit dissapointed. Everything seemed so formal and people were really thinking that something that they do is so hard that some girl who travelled around, has a degree and work and life experience will not learn some reservations programme. And this attitude I-am-better-than-you-cause-I-worked-50-years-in-the-same-boring-chair, eugh. I started to question myself do I want to be surrounded by this. And I am not just talking about Lithuania, I am talking about everywhere. Do I want to get into that system. And if not where can I find something that really attracts me and meets my life's philospohy. I am sure those jobs exist I just have to keep looking.

And then the message from the sky. I got the job with really nice people in one of the bar in my beloved Sark where I spent my last summer. No formalities, fun atmosphere, future events and gigs and some extra cash for something that will happen after this summer. My next travels probably :)

Well, sometimes the jobs just fall from the sky, I guess. And the most important to follow your heart and intuition.

For now I still have some time to forget about the I-am-looking-for-a-job title and concentrate on spending time in the nature with people or animals I love. Soon I will be packing my backpack and continuing another adventures.

Have a relaxing summer and don't work too hard :)

Ciao Bella Italia!

Remember my post, my first post in South East Asia? I arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand and was fascinated about everything, especially about food. I do remember thinking that I will not be able to come back to Europe...

Well, time passed and we ended up looking for a ticket to go back to Europe.

And we chose Italy. There were two main reasons. Dom has a family living there;grandfather, uncles, aunts, cousins and so on that he wanted to see and my friends were organizing a volunteers reunion in Sicily for couple of days. And to be honest Italy sounded like a great country to land in after 6 months of summer in South East Asia :)

So we got here. The feeling that I got in Bangkok came back to me. Oh my God, the food, the glorious italian food welcomed us back. There is something about it. What am I talking about? Italians are magicians when it comes to food :)

Ricotta, parmesano, ravioli, spaghetti, lasagna, pasta, pesto, nutella, gelato, pizza, mascarpone, olive oil, wine... Oh my God, all the tasty food that we missed.

Dom's family made sure that I will taste everything. Our shrank asian stomachs became the stretched european ones.

And then it was time for the nature. We drove from North to South enjoying beautiful landscape of snowy mountains, green hills, hot plains, sandy beaches and cute Italian houses.

The time spent with my friends reunited in Sicily was full of great memories and of course amazing Sicilian food.

I feel like Italy is treating me well. But very soon I will be packing my old backpack and coming to see my homeland-Lithuania. And this time I am bringing Dom so he can finally see where I grew up.

I hope you are all well,

Much love,

Ligita
