Ode to Sark

Hello,

I keep hearing or reading everywhere that Sark is a unique island. And it is definitely true. It depends on your personality only if it is positive unique or negative. To me it was always and always will be only positive.

I spent 6 months here. And those 6 months were full of beautiful memories.

When people are coming to Sark, most of them are very surprised that there are no cars, no street lights, the only transport you can see it’s tractors, horse carriages or bicycles, which in fact brings you more than one bruise on your body. Yes, it is old fashioned and I love it.

Forget about big super markets, shopping halls or any ‘big cities necessities’. Sark is quiet and natural. There is only 600 people living on Sark, which in summer can increase to 1000 or more due to seasonal workers coming to work on Sark.

It’s the last feudal state in Europe and it’s crazy that such a small island can be independent and have it’s own government, no police only constables instead. There are many discussions whether Sark needs changes or not. Personally I love Sark the way how it is. That’s what brought me here. Natural beauty and tranquillity.

I don’t need fancy hotels full of posh people who complain about being too dark on the nights.

I don’t need that wave of stupid tourists who come to enjoy full breakfast and fine dining style holidays.

Sark is muddy, dirty but so beautiful and unspoiled. And from my perspective I want it to be like that.

I look to these beautiful surroundings, stunning coast, caves and many more natural wonders and I smile. I love that Sark is still sort of untouched. No stupid safety regulations, happy children running around where there are no cars and traffic, happy cows spending whole day outside and resting in the sunshine. I love it!

I finished my work and my flight is on Friday. This summer again has been amazing. Swimming, seeing wild dolphins, going on a boat trips, running, cycling, water skiing, drawing, making earring, reading, writing, scuba diving, caving, eating fresh lobsters, visiting other islands, countless really countless days full of joy and happiness, many thanks to my personal Sark guide Dom.

It’s time for my new adventures. For now I am off to Lithuania. For a month. To relax, to reflect on my experiences and to prepare for my big trip in November.

See you somewhere over the rainbow,

Greetings from this beautiful and stunning island Sark,

Your Traveller.

Last Month in Sark

Hello my dear friends,

Yes, it's been a while since I wrote anything here. Busy days.

It's September and it's my last month here in this small beautiful island which has such a big part in my heart.

I am so happy to be here. The real tranquillity of my life. Although at my work it's been pretty damn busy and I started to feel a bit of stress in my life which is my worst enemy after the routine.

Sark treated me so well. And the weather, ohhh sunny and warm days. That's a real summer for me.

Today some of our staff already left an island since they chose 31st of august as their last day of work. Mine is 5th of October. Fuck, the time flies. I have only one month left!!! My season is nearly finished. Who could have thought I will do with only one day off per week! I am proud of myself.

But hey, do you remember why I came to Sark? To earn some money and go travelling in South America. But plans never work and I am happy that they don't, it's more interesting like that. Life is so unexpective and people I meet always somehow shape my future.

13th of November I am leaving our old lovely Europe and together with Dominic we are going to explore South East Asia. That's it. One way ticket. Easy like that. Where next? Never know. No plans, no schedules, no work. Just two of us and the backpacks on our backs :)

My new adventure is on it's way.

For now I'll try to stay calm and enjoy my last month in Sark.

Have a great September everybody!

I miss you

Busy Summer

Dear all,

Wow. I have been pretty quiet with my posts recently. Well, I am just enjoying my busy summer, doing many things and being with my beloved ones.

Since my last post many things happened. I think I really like the boy I am with now. He is great.

My 3 friends arrived to Sark to work on the vineyards so it feels amazing to have them here.

Sadly, I have been working loads of hours and the routine of work is already knocking on my door which makes my feet feel itchy for the new travels. I am not the working person anymore. One day off per week is not for me, I need more time for myself and this beautiful nature around me. Oh well, stop complaining Ligita.

My summer consist of hours of swimming, having boat trips, kayaking, scuba diving, seeing the wild dolphins in the sea, barbeques with friends, lobsters, cheap alcohol parties, love, laugh, sleepless enjoyable nights, stars in the sky,  fresh air, cycling and those sunny sunny days. You know what, I am in love with Sark. This little beauty. I’ve made such a good decision to come here.

Life is great when you enjoy it and I must say my life is great.

I know I became less reachable with some friends, it never means I am not thinking about you. I am enjoying my time here and computer is left in the corner. Don’t be mad on me, I never forgot you and never will.

It is the end of July, fuck, the time runs too quickly.

Enjoy the moments, enjoy the summer.

With love,

Ligita
