Addicted to Islands

Hola Chicos!

I grew up in Lithuania surrounded by the lakes and forests. But my passion for water always took me wondering about the islands life. There was something magical about it. So unconsciously I started chasing after the islands.

My first one was just a quick glance, a short escape for a break- Thassos island in Greece. I felt like then my love for islands started to grow bigger and bigger.

The second one was really obvious- United Kingdom. In fact it never felt like an island. Too big in one day to see the sunset and sunrise :)

Then I discovered Sark, one of the most unique islands I've ever been to, And then I got it. It was this island lifestyle that I was always looking for. Freedom from mainland but in the same time isolation for soul. The tranquility of life, people having time for each other, boat trips, nature and of course sea or the ocean 360° around you.

In Sark I met another island addict Dom. And then our travels together began.Whether it was Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia or Philippines we both always would end up on an island.

This time we didn't go far, we went to tourism boom place Tenerife. We did have good intentions to volunteer at animal shelter but the place wasn't really what we expected for so we packed our backpacks and travelled around.

We ended up in this travelers/wonderers place on the beach (in fact one of the most beautiful beaches in Tenerife) called La Caleta and we loved it instantly. Slow rhythm of life, some people living in caves, some in handmade houses from stones and banana trees leaves, some, like us, living in the tents. Having long walks around and exploring the area, cooking dinners on fire, reading, morning baths in the ocean, jumping and diving into huge waves, eating delicious fruits, veggies and sea food, yes, that was our routine there. There it was easy to forget that in 20 minutes walk you can reach red and belly beer tourists living in their own little britains and germanies paradises with fake swimming pools and zero culture.

We tried to look deeper, to be more within the nature of this island and observe just a little bit of paradise still left on the island.

After one month sun retreat it was time to fly to Barcelona and like in old days travel back to Sark by the road. Around 1300 km 37 different cars took us to the North West of Normandy where by a good friend we were picked up by boat and brought to our beloved Sark. The generosity of people, their good intentions and funny stories made us get back the faith in humanity. And of course every travel just gets better once re-united with good friends on the road. Thank you for hosting/feeding and entertaining two stinky travelers. Our home doors in Sark are always open for you.

Another summer in front of me and I smile. I am happy to spend it in Sark.

Enjoy yours,

Much love,

Ligita

Living in The Clouds. Next Destination - Sunshine

Hello everybody,

Recently I've been very quiet here just because for the past 5 months I've been living in the clouds. Literally. Every morning waking up, looking through the kitchen window and seeing mountains covered in snow and these big fluffy pillow clouds that sunshine goes through from time to time. The experience was magnificent. Or extraordinary as good old Attenborough would say.

Of course from time to time I started to take things for granted and forget where I was living and what I was doing. But when you are flying on your snowboard you stop for a second and just take in all that beauty that is thrown right at you. Sorry, I have to swear, it's fucking awesome!

So apart from enjoying the surroundings, having fun with snowboarding, I met some beautiful people here. Good laughs, good times, great vibes. The company I worked, actually still working, took good care of us which always makes your life so much easier.

It's slowly coming to an end. The slopes are empty (which is amazing) and the grass is starting to come out little by little. Next week we are all leaving, giving a break for these beautiful mountains.

So many people told me that doing a ski season was one of the best times in their life and now they are all addicted to it. In fact, I completely agree, it's great here and you get so much time to be doing things you love. From now on everytime it will snow I'll be thinking about snowboarding, about getting on untouched powder, remembering the feeling of flying. I'm sure I'll do it again.

On the other hand I am missing my water, ocean, lakes, rivers and of course my favourite season-summer. No shoes, one dress, camping, warm nights around the fire and all the goodies that comes with a sun.

Next stop- seeing my great friend and beautiful gorge du Verdon followed by exploring Tenerife island and helping out at animal shelter there. Can't wait. Will be great :)

Have a beautiful April!
